The company which was started with the aim to colonize the mars and make it safe heaven is now declared bankrupt. The startup with Mars One mission is officially bankrupt as declared by the Swiss court. Mars One Ventures, the company behind Mars One mission was formally declared bankrupt by the Swiss court, but no one knew about it till today. A Redditor found the listing on Swiss court website and got to know about the bankruptcy of the company. Dutch entrepreneur Bas Lansdorp created it with the aim to colonize the red planet for safety.
The company was split into two different companies, one was for-profit, and one was non-profit. The for-profit Mars one Ventures declared bankrupt by the Basel court in a hearing took place on January 15th. Also, the UK-based subsidiary of the same company is listed as a Dormant company with less than £20,000 in the joint bank accounts. At the time of bankruptcy, Mars One Ventures was valued at $100 million. Founder of the company Mr.Bas Lansdorp said that the non-profit Mars One organization is alive but dormant due to unavailability of funds to operate. It earned money by charging licensing fees to the main company.
Mars One did announce the investment from Phoenix Enterprise, which pledged €12 million funding for over a year for operations. The company said they would use the money to pay licensing fees to Mars one Foundation, enroll the mars one colonization volunteers and re-list itself on Frankfurt Stock Markets. The vision of the company was questionable as the entire process of taking humans and settling them on the mars is very costly and near impossible at the current stage of technology. Many of the economists and scientists claimed this as a sham and near impossible mission to colonize humans on Mars in the near future.
